New Project Review ProcessPreliminary in-house reviews determine whether a project falls within or outside the scope of Howard University Press's mission and current publishing program. A project that passes preliminary in-house consideration moves to the second stage of the assessment process: scholarly peer review. The Press solicits at least one scholarly assessment of each new project. The Press forwards synopses of scholarly peer reviews and synopses of Scholarly Worth Committee comments to authors of projects the Committee advocates for publication. If the project editor and the author reach agreement about the project's final shape, which will be based on in-house assessments, scholarly peer reviews, and Scholarly Worth Committee comments, the Press negotiates contract terms with the author. |
