The
Politics of Change: A Jamaican Testament (Revised Edition) by Michael Manley
The late Michael Manley, former prime minister of Jamaica, expands his views on Third World politics in a new edition of The Politics of Change. Divided into two parts, the volume examines the condition of Jamaica as a newly independent nation seeking to define a moral frame, a social objective, and a possible methodology for its political system. The book then considers strategies aimed at transforming Jamaican society. The problems that arise in Jamaica’s political system, economy, foreign relations, education, and basic institutions are also examined. Manley points a new way forward for the Jamaican people with his characteristic honesty, passion, and commitment. In a new epilogue, he explains how his views have changed to suit Jamaica's new circumstances, and he examines his own "errors of application and failures of analysis." About the Author
Michael Manley was a controversial politician, who catapulted his Caribbean nation to worldwide attention by thumbing his nose at Washington and courting Cuba’s president, Fidel Castro. He was also a journalist, member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, labor organizer, cricket expert, economist, Third World spokesman, international sharpshooter, and one of the most prominent Caribbean personalities of his time.
