To more cost-effectively keep select backlist titles available to meet ongoing demand now and into the future, Howard University Press has launched an ambitious digital reprint publishing program.  Books selected for inclusion in this series of reprint editions commanded considerable attention upon first publication and continue to draw significant interest, though long out of print or in short supply.  Initially, 92 titles, grouped into the following 14 libraries, are slated to re-appear as Classic Editions.

Beginning in early 2003, the contents of all 92 titles were digitized, or scanned into electronic file format.  An attractive, uniform cover design was created for the entire series and electronic files of each book’s cover were prepared.  When both cover and internal text files are ready, only small-quantity printings of Classic Editions titles or just the number needed to fulfill individual orders will be printed—on demand—and shipped to the warehouse or directly to the customer.

Sporting distinctive Classic Editions covers, these hi-tech “new originals” are now available to a new generation of scholarly readers.
